News from the NET

I’ve recently spent many hours working my way through a lengthy government document on Fire safety risk assessments for small and medium places of worship. One of the joys of being a church administrator is getting to do such tasks and then feeling the pleasure when you finally turn the last page and complete the assessment!

Spending time in the week thinking about fire, how it starts and how it travels etc. and reducing the risks is, on reflection, quite contrary to worshiping on a Sunday, heading towards Pentecost and looking for the fire of God to fall once again. It makes me wonder if I should spend some time considering how the fire of God could travel through our communities unhindered by the doors we sometimes keep shut and fuelled by being a true disciple of Christ.

Whilst I sat to write this, I was reminded of that old hymn ‘They were gathered in an upper chamber...let the fire fall, let the fire fall, let the fire from heaven fall, we are waiting and expecting, now in faith dear Lord we call...’ Apologies in advance if you’re old enough to know this and end up singing this all day!
